Microsoft launches holiday gift card promotion
In a holiday season promotion, Microsoft Corp. is offering a $25 gift card offer when customers buy a new Windows-based touch PC or table computer. The cards are designed to be used in Microsoft's online app store for the purchase of apps and games.
On Dec. 2, 2013, Microsoft said via its corporate blog that the promotional cards are available at online and brick-and-mortar locations, including online retailers Amazon.com, Newegg.com and Wal-mart.com, and in the physical stores of Best Buy Inc., Fry's Electronics Inc., Staples Inc. and Office Depot Inc., among others.
Microsoft said the promotion is meant as an incentive both for consumers and app developers. The software giant hopes the card promotion will increase the popularity of its app store and entice developers to build apps for Microsoft's online Windows Store, where the company boasts over 100,000 apps available for download. The promotion runs through Dec. 28, 2013, and the card must be redeemed by Feb. 28, 2014.
