Pledging for Hurricane Sandy disaster relief
The Western Union Co., in conjunction with The Western Union Foundation, and Co-Op Financial Services have stepped up to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy, which devastated a wide swath of the U.S. East Coast in addition to parts of the Caribbean in October 2012.
Western Union's efforts will include:
- Direct support through a total of $75,000 in grants to organizations supporting relief efforts in the areas affected by the hurricane, including parts of the United States, Jamaica and Cuba.
- Mobilization of consumer giving via a "no transfer fee" program for consumers who wish to donate to the American Red Cross relief efforts.
- Encouragement of employee and agent giving through a match program via which Western Union will match all U.S. employee donations to The Western Union Foundation two-for-one.
Co-Op Financial Services pledged $10,000 to CUAid, which is managed by the National Credit Union Foundation and has been activated to provide disaster relief to credit union members, staff and volunteers affected by Hurricane Sandy.
